Dettaglio offerta - I borghi delle due valli
In Orvieto we will see the superb façade of the Duomo with all the explanations on its history, then we will walk through the historical centre to admire its main monuments (public buildings, squares, towers, traces of the Templars, etc.) and to discover the most characteristic and least known corners. We will enter ancient churches, usually overlooked by tourists but worthy of a guided tour, and we will be able to observe beautiful landscapes from the top of the cliff. The Via Romea, an important pilgrimage route, passed through here, which then continued on to Montefiascone.
In the afternoon we will move on to Bolsena, a tourist town on the lake of the same name, which lies along the Via Francigena, one of the main medieval pilgrimage routes. We will visit the ancient Basilica of Santa Cristina, built in the 11th century and adorned in the Renaissance with beautiful Robbia-style ceramics. The famous Eucharistic miracle of 1263 took place here. We can see the altar and the stones stained by the blood from the host. There are also the early Christian catacombs. After a walk through the town centre, which will take us to discover the squares and alleyways, we will have two options: either reach the lakeshore to relax and perhaps enjoy an ice cream, or (but ask the guide several days in advance because he has to book it) enter to visit the Palazzo del Drago, a stately 16th-century residence built by Tiberio Crispo, the papal governor of Bolsena.
